Chapel Cottage is a traditional and pretty stone cottage for two, set in the North Pennines with views over the South Tyne Valley and surrounding unspoilt countryside. The cottage is ideally located for those wanting to explore historic Northumberland and the old South Tynedale trail which runs from Haltwhistle to Alston and is popular with walkers of all abilities. The trail can be accessed close by at Coanwood (free car parking available) and a few miles down the trail at Featherstone is a real ale pub the Wallace Arms.

Downstairs boasts an open plan living space, with a compact kitchen which is well equipped for self-catering. There is a small table to eat at, a TV with Freeview for evening entertainment and an electric fire for those colder evening. While upstairs has a spacious double room with build in wardrobes and dressing table and window seating where you can sit and enjoy a book. There is also a shower room with a toilet.

Outside there is a small flower garden with benches to the front of the cottage. Off road parking is included and pets are welcome with prior notification.

Local Information
Just 5.5 miles from Haltwhistle, where you can find an array of amenities, local services and transport routes, the cottage is the perfect spot to explore the dramatic local countryside, yet remains in close proximity to cities such as Carlisle to the West, and Newcastle to the East. For those who enjoy walking and hiking, the old South Tynedale Railway which opened in 1842 and closed to trains in 1976 is right on the doorstep. The trail runs from Haltwhistle to Alston with some amazing scenery and wildlife, including Lambley Viaduct which is only a short walk away. The section for Alston to Slaggyford has been restored and you can now take a ride on the train or have a bite to eat in one of Alston’s many cafes. If you like your history Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda, House Steads and the Sill are approximately a 30 minute drive away.

From Haltwhistle – on the A69 take the turning for Alston, Halton-lea-Gate and Coanwood and drive up Bellister Bank. Continue along the road for just over 4 miles. At Coanwood the road makes a tight bend to the right, here take the turning which appears to be straight ahead signposted Whitfeild (has a water treatment plant to the left). Drive straight ahead and continue on this road for approx. 1 mile. Please take care as this road is a single track road. As the road starts to go uphill, Chapel cottage is located in the row of cottages to the right.
From Alston – take a left at the bottom of Main Street onto the A689. Follow this road past the petrol station and spar and over the bridge. Take the next right onto the A689 signposted Brampton. Following this road for approximately 8.5 miles and take the right turning at Lambley signposted Haltwhistle and Coanwood. Continue for another 2 miles, here the road will make a sharp bend to the left, take the right turning signposted Whitfield. Continue on this road for approx. 1 mile. Please take care as this road is a single track road. As the road starts to go uphill, Chapel cottage is located in the row of cottages to the right.
Chapel Cottage is the middle cottage in the row, marked number 1 on the front door and has a Pennine Country Cottages sign on the garden gate. Off road parking is available to the right of the row of houses (gravelled and fence off area). The owners live at the Jerry to the left of Chapel Cottage and will meet you on arrival.
