Lea House is a Pennine Country Cottages. This beautiful stone cottage is located in the small village of Wearhead in the Upper Wear Valley. For those who like the outdoors this is the perfect base to explore Country Durham and the areas beyond, with numerous walks and the Weardale Adventure Centre located a few miles down the road. It is the perfect location for couples, small groups or families looking to get away and enjoy some time in the outdoors or just relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Downstairs there is a dining room traditionally furnished with space for everyone to sit, eat and entertain. The modern kitchen is well equipped to cook hearty meals after a busy day exploring all that the area has to offer. Off the kitchen to the right is the utility room with washing machine and to the left the downstairs toilet.

The living room is centered around an electric fireplace and features wooden beams to the ceiling. With 2 two seater sofas, there is plenty of room to cozy up on an evening.  

Upstairs there is a family bathroom with shower over bath and 2 good sized bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin both giving plenty of wardrobe storage.

There is a delightful walled garden to the front of the property with plenty of seating to enjoy the views of the stunning countryside.

Secure bike storage is available on request. 

Pets are accepted but prior arrangement must be made for this - maximum of 2 dogs (an extra cleaning charge of £20 per dog will apply).

Local Information

Lea House is located at Wearhead in the upper Weardale Valley.  The house is in an ideal location to the borders of Cumbria and Northumberland making this a perfect base to get out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you are a walker or cyclist you will be in your element as there are many walks and cycle routes on the doorstep. The property is a few minutes’ walk to the Cowshill Hotel an old fashioned public house. The village of St Johns Chapel is a 10 minute drive down the dale where you can source your daily amenities from the village co-op, there is also a post office with tea room, a café and 2 pubs one of which serves food. The North of England Lead Mining Museum at Killhope is a ten minute drive from the cottage, well worth a visit giving you an insight into the lead mining era with underground tours.
